Old Places

The paint, worn,
Tastes the edges
With cracked lips
Along the slender
Wheat colored hair
Of glaring knots.

Tired faces, wrinkled,
Rough and hard
Watch unyielding.

The floor, creaking,
Yawns and folds
Inward, foot by foot,
While the wind
Whistles by
The swinging door.
